My oh my... It's been quite eventful as of late! I am coming to the end of my MSc so work is jam packed! I got to go to the Silverstone Grand Prix for free thanks to my awesome brother (who is an aerodynamicist for Maclaren F1) and it was an awesome weekend. Never seen so much mud, especially in the field we camped in!! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/487319_10151025360858088_882150890_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/487319_10151025360858088_882150890_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
mmm muddy campsite</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/s720x720/548055_10151025363588088_2017929862_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/s720x720/548055_10151025363588088_2017929862_n.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had an interview for a biological crop protection company, then got called back for a second interview (in which I had to give a presentation and carry out an experiment--- SUPER SCARY!). The best thing though was that I GOT THE JOB!!!! Doing the masters has paid off already, as I have got into the industry that I wanted to. (I get to travel too :D )</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As if last week wasn't exciting enough (having the second interview, getting the job--- even cancelling another interview I was to have on the Friday). I was gifted tickets to the Olympics!!! (Lucky I'm currently located not too far away from London) It was so exciting! I have to admit, I have always hated the olympics, and the build up to it just made me hate it even more... every advert on TV was games related. But I embraced it and ended up watching more of the olympics than I ever would have anticipated! (I think I watched a hell of alot... theres not much I didn't watch... lets hope my MSc project hasn't suffered too much from it). So on Sunday I took my one of my brothers for his birthday (which is today!! HAPPY 25th CRAIG!!) to the male bronze volleyball final... It was so exciting and fun! Volleyball is awesome... I love getting to play it here on campus when the weather is nice!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/215651_10151096732483088_1688332351_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/215651_10151096732483088_1688332351_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
(went to christmas world in Harrods... I know, I know its only August, but I'm a December baby so I look forward to December ALOT)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/418649_10151096737703088_2018732896_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/418649_10151096737703088_2018732896_n.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So as a treat to myself for getting the job. I treated myself to the yarn and pattern I have been wanting for AGES!! I bought cheap acrylic yarn for it because I want it to be machine washable (my housemate knitted a jumper from the same yarn and it was super soft and made a gorgeous jumper, sometimes its not worth being a yarn snob). The pattern you may ask? Well I do LOVE <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/people/tinyowlknits">Tiny Owl Knits</a>, so I bought her <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/tinyowlknits/wear-the-wild-things-are">wear the wild things are</a> jumper! Cannot wait to cast on!!! (I hope the yarn comes tomorrow!). Here is a picture of the awesome jumper (mine is going to be in grey).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4067/4275158746_0fd059c674_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4067/4275158746_0fd059c674_z.jpg" width="217" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another pattern I have seen which I feel is a MUST KNIT is <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fightin-words">Fighting words by Annie Watts </a>in particular the slighly different version knitted by raveler <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Sazzles/fightin-words">Sazzles</a>... Just look how AWESOME they are!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Sazzles/112655638/P1100960_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Sazzles/112655638/P1100960_medium2.JPG" width="318" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway! I hope all is going well in your own worlds! Will try and knit something worth posting pictures of soon!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

Where to begin I'm not sure! I guess I will start with my O w l s jumper. ITS FINISHED!!! I frogged it for ages when I realised I was four stitches short but after my exams in March I decided to pick it up again and finish it. Its sooo lovely and I'm so happy with it. Sadly I haven't quite had the chance to wear it (despite the 'summer' weather being cold, I thought it looked a bit to wintry to wear). So here it is!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/103211502/DSCN1267_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/103211502/DSCN1267_medium2.JPG" width="238" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/103211419/DSCN1265_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/103211419/DSCN1265_medium2.JPG" width="135" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
On my last post that I posted picture on I said I was going to knit Ships & Seaside which the lovely Eilair on Ravelry had gifted to me! I got the yarn as a birthday present from my brother too So I knitted like crazy over christmas and finished... It is super warm and I got to wear it multiple times over the winter :D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbWnUAc01A7Ajpa53qcpkpRYDDOuRXcu8q8XB6xctwfMe-xbCmY2mRpFaPm_T2Bo3jfNglYaz8lXOsTcuWLP6eLjYhe3_uPdBhUtPX-XXutRpK8P3v4bPV0C-0J5xR-PxQYfMtsU4JWFNo/s1600/DSC_0157.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbWnUAc01A7Ajpa53qcpkpRYDDOuRXcu8q8XB6xctwfMe-xbCmY2mRpFaPm_T2Bo3jfNglYaz8lXOsTcuWLP6eLjYhe3_uPdBhUtPX-XXutRpK8P3v4bPV0C-0J5xR-PxQYfMtsU4JWFNo/s320/DSC_0157.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Here I am wearing it on a trip to Beachy head.. and boy did I need it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/574440_836667953922_1774621339_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="202" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/574440_836667953922_1774621339_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I also mentioned the Basket weave scarf from the Debbie Bliss magazine in the last post, well its not finish and its a slow knit. I'm not constantly working on it but it has proven useful to waste time on train journeys and such! One thing I must say is that I LOVE THE COLOURS!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilbbf_Z5ggjHAWV6-kvk8VhbblAEucHkqLnilI7WEJnOPdbPt4FQRKifYrvNAM_1zFPlrqgI1h5Zlw3cjs_hAOhck_aA1gfARZfAr78CI9YroRBOI861B77nZgRUGEUU2sbHUWim684n5m/s1600/DSC_0179.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilbbf_Z5ggjHAWV6-kvk8VhbblAEucHkqLnilI7WEJnOPdbPt4FQRKifYrvNAM_1zFPlrqgI1h5Zlw3cjs_hAOhck_aA1gfARZfAr78CI9YroRBOI861B77nZgRUGEUU2sbHUWim684n5m/s320/DSC_0179.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and the pattern is awesome too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNKj_xiVKEqQpjByc7ZI5yadmdFWU2fW45Pj-b-lmeMsou1PFKvT6P-qiw-s0NeWC1mnpR_GEgDyBQKoxMH7x5vvf-qegmjnkGN8iM7jUcLC8vipDy7kLPlCYSN3QG_Col-Ay4BPOnRypy/s1600/DSC_0181.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNKj_xiVKEqQpjByc7ZI5yadmdFWU2fW45Pj-b-lmeMsou1PFKvT6P-qiw-s0NeWC1mnpR_GEgDyBQKoxMH7x5vvf-qegmjnkGN8iM7jUcLC8vipDy7kLPlCYSN3QG_Col-Ay4BPOnRypy/s320/DSC_0181.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Staying on scarfs... I also got a ball of Kidsilk haze stripe and knit a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pilvituubi---cloud-cowl">cowl</a> from it. I chose the colour way circus as a love bright colours. It turns out that I can wear this as a ponch type thing, a top AND a skirt!!! but I will stick to wearing it as a cowl!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
sorry for the poor photo</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/106779921/DSC_0148_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/106779921/DSC_0148_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Oh and I just remembered I finished my toast scarf!!! Here it is in all of its toasty delight!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It was my best friends birthday recently and I decided to make her the Deer with antlers hat (which I got the pattern gifted to me by Ginargh on Ravelry for my birthday!). I used Debbie bliss Paloma yarn and boy oh boy is it lovely!!! I would love to make a jumper out of this yarn its like a little piece of heaven! I didn't have any yarn to felt for the antlers so I left it as a Doe!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/106303166/138_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/106303166/138_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I also decided to try out some colour work in the form of a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/norwegian-totoro-mittens">Totoro Norwegian style glove </a> I may have given up for a while but I am pleased with how it is coming along!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

Another of my housemates had a birthday, and since she loves ants and is going to be doing a PhD on them I knitted her an ant from the book Amigurumi Knits by Hansi Singh. She loved it :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Where I currently live at the moment campus is teaming with rabbits! They are everywhere!!! Which is probably the reason why they have become the logo for Silwoods music festival SILFEST. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I WARN YOU NOW YOU MAY BE OFFENDED BY THE NEXT PICTURE... if so sorry </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is the logo...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/309972_10151141198224688_653632001_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/309972_10151141198224688_653632001_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

Though it has been a stressful 6 months at uni!<br />
I have still been knitting and crocheting so I have a few things to show you which I promise to post about this weekend!<br />
xSaskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-35724184779604599182011-12-19T13:05:00.001+00:002011-12-19T13:12:44.367+00:00It's beginning to look alot like Christmas<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm back but with only a few photos and not many finished objects. I cant believe I have finished a term at Imperial already! Time has certainly flown by! But it means that I have an exam on the 6th January so no time to play, just do the torturous revision. I ask myself at every set of exams 'why am I doing this to myslef?!?!? I hate exams and revision' But hopefully I will get a job I want at the end of the day and earn some decent money.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway enough of me moaning about exams.... So first I got a request off a fellow masters student to make a bdelloid rotifer so he could give it as a gift. So I got him to give me a line drawing and the species name so I could get pictures and set about doing it. I completed it in an evening :) and it was fun to make and I only unravelled it once. How do you crochet a teeny tiny transparent marine animal though and show features?!? It was certainly a challenge but I think it came out quite well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So here is a picture of the real thing <i>Adineta vaga</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/83644978/Adineta-vaga3080c_medium.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/83644978/Adineta-vaga3080c_medium.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<i><br /></i></div>
<div>
And here is my version</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/83645019/DSC_0236_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/83645019/DSC_0236_medium2.JPG" width="211" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/83645073/DSC_0233_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/83645073/DSC_0233_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway the guy liked it and the receiver of the rotifer did too. I guess its not everyday that you get a crocheted rotifer for christmas. (I should point out that the receiver does research with rotifers).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Next is secret santa time, after finding out we were going to do secret santa I knew exactly what I was going to make! The teeny tiny mochimochi snowman which I have had my eye on for some time. So I bought the pattern and got to it!. Its such a cute pattern and I didnt want to give it away at all once I had finished it! I attached some yarn so it could be hung up as a christmas decoration.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/84087942/DSC_0240_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/84087942/DSC_0240_medium2.JPG" width="211" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have quite a few works in progress at the moment. I am halfway through ships and seaside by Tiny Owl Knits. I got the yarn off my brothers for my birthday :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5138/5415869904_85824cb79f_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5138/5415869904_85824cb79f_z.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have started the baskestweave wrap by debbie bliss in Candy colourway rather than Heather (because candy is much brighter than heather). I got the yarn off my mum and dad for my birthday :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6058/6329480647_daeda56d57_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6058/6329480647_daeda56d57_z.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have two orchids and fairy lights hats to make, one for my mums birthday and one for my housemate, which I look forward to making.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
OOO and Tiny owl knits brought out a little FREE pattern on saturday... look!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/tinyowlknits/84789244/DSC_0082_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/tinyowlknits/84789244/DSC_0082_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Its called heartfelt rings and they are so cute (I think I use 'so cute too much, I need another phrase) So I made a quick one out of chunky yarn (I had no 4ply with me) and knitted it with pencils because I had left by bigger DPNs back at uni... but here it is</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm8.static.flickr.com/7169/6527650577_56cc69ed4d_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://farm8.static.flickr.com/7169/6527650577_56cc69ed4d_z.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Sorry for the crap photo, I took it with my webcam.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
If only I could spend all my time knitting/crocheting rather than revising GRRRBLE!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
But anyway insects are cool. (thats right I study insects). Speaking of insects look at the AWESOME birthday cake my housemates got me...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!</b></div>Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-5116050530976872782011-11-21T00:54:00.001+00:002011-11-21T01:11:52.856+00:00Where is the cold weather?!?!<div style="text-align: justify;">
Alright! OK so I'm trying to keep up at least one blog post a month. Where I would like to say that I haven't done much because I have been studying hard, its the contrary :/ So I have completed quite a few projects and have many more planned, but I have to wait til my Birthday for the yarn for them (luckily its not too far away :D )</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Queue the gallery of finished objects!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Firstly my orchids and fairy lights hat! WHICH I LOVE!!!!!! I'm soooooooooo happy with how it turned out and the malabrigo yarn is sooooooooooo soft. This hat is like a little piece of heaven!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/80073817/DSC_0218_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/80073817/DSC_0218_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
And bonus... it fits :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/80073865/CSC_0217_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/80073865/CSC_0217_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I made another Tiny owl knits hat as well. The pattern is free rapunzel and was gifted to me by the lovely LilyLaLu on ravelry. I'm not adding the braids and I'm not sure about the bobble on top but I am chuffed with it despite making a few oopsy daisies.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/81625537/DSC_0228_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/81625537/DSC_0228_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
In the spirit of Movember because I cannot grow facial hair myself I knitted some using the awesome free pattern </div>
<h2 style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, 'Lucida Sans Unicode', 'Lucida Grande', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/its-a-moustache-for-your-fingers">It's a moustache, for your fingers!</a></h2>
<h2 style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, 'Lucida Sans Unicode', 'Lucida Grande', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">it has provided much amusement</span></h2>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/81625867/DSC_0226_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/81625867/DSC_0226_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Last but not least, I finally got round to doing some crochet again! It feels like it has been <b>forever </b>since I picked up a crochet hook. So I made a Pug from the book Ami Ami Dogs and named him BARRY.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<br />
<u><i>Spinning workshop</i></u><br />
<u><i><br /></i></u><br />
In september I went to a spinning in Ormskirk, it was taught on spinning wheels and was so much fun! I will definitely be buying a spinning wheel when I start earning money! The lesson was taught by <a href="http://lazypeasant.blogspot.com/">Lazy kate</a> and what a great teacher she was. It took some time to get used to all the things you had to do and be aware of when you are spinning but boy it was fun. At the end of the lesson I had two skeins of 2 ply yarn that I had spun myself :D<br />
<br />
If you can get on a workshop with her I recommend it. Check out her <a href="http://lazypeasant.blogspot.com/2011/09/workshop-news.html">blog on the lesson</a>.<br />
<br />
Here are some pictures of my spun yarn! It varies in thickness but one ply of it is much more consistently thin which is when I had got the hang of it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6035/6271834501_e080a26b72.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6035/6271834501_e080a26b72.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Unlike the others in the class I decided I was going to make something from the yarn. So I made some simple fingerless mitts<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6091/6272363952_1e274c28a7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6091/6272363952_1e274c28a7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6104/6271836713_e62b0e5c66.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6104/6271836713_e62b0e5c66.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
They are really snug even though they dont look so neat. I love them as I know I spun the yarn :)<br />
<br />
LazyKate also has her own <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/lazykate">etsy shop</a> where she sells yarn she has spun and roving she has dyed herself. At the class I bought some lovely blue Leicester roving dyed in a beautiful colour. I will spin this on my drop spindle. So check out her etsy shop!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6110/6272366524_cc020c7f08.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6110/6272366524_cc020c7f08.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<i><u>Works in progress</u></i><br />
<i><u><br /></u></i><br />
I haven't done much at the moment but here is what I have done:<br />
<br />
Left glove of my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/noro-fingerless-mitts">Noro fingerless mitts</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Left glove of my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/white-rabbit-wrist-ees">white rabbit wristees</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/75716930/DSC_0138_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Saski/75716930/DSC_0138_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I think I should start making some right gloves now!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Here are a couple of patterned hexipuffs (and a pic of them all):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6228/6271837311_9ea567b8db.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6228/6271837311_9ea567b8db.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6102/6272367750_55a37b0de6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6102/6272367750_55a37b0de6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6034/6271839345_0d201d7604.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6034/6271839345_0d201d7604.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Progress on the hexipuffs is going slow!<br />
<br />
Also my jumper is almost ready to join the body and the sleeves, so I can start on the owl yoke soon!<br />
<br />
Finally, I bought another TOK pattern last night! Its orchids and fairy lights hat. I have been looking at this pattern for ages wanting it, so I finally went and bought it. I ordered the yarn too which should arrive this week. Cant wait to cast it on and I hope the weather will get cold enough to wear it!<br />

Im currently trying to write a paper for tomorrow :S But I have so much to share with you! So I will definately make time this weekend to blog!Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-20539901844557475722011-09-14T13:02:00.002+01:002011-09-14T13:02:55.267+01:00Winter is coming!<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm sad to say but I haven't been doing any crochet or knitting of late. I appear to have over done it this holiday and as a result I seem to have knackered my hands :( Hopefully though after a few more weeks of resting my hands will be as good as new and I will be able to hook and knit again! I hope by Christmas I will have finished all the projects I have on the go atm! (Which is quite alot!) </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On the brighter side of this I have a spinning class this Saturday, hopefully my hands will allow me to do and enjoy it! I will post all about the class sometime next week.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am moving to the south soon to start university again so my posts may become fewer and further between but please still check out my blog as I will post as often as possible, even if its to share some crochet or knitting I have seen rather than done myself! I imagine I will start little amigurumi projects again like I did during my final undergrad year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Happy crochet and knitting!</div>
Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-77752884023239861472011-08-27T15:39:00.001+01:002011-08-27T15:49:56.633+01:00Finished objects and work in progress!<b><i><u>Crochet FO!</u></i></b><br />
<b><i><u><br />
</u></i></b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">My brothers birthday was this August and so I made him a star blanket, my fourth star blanket! He loves the colour blue and so I went for a sea and sand theme. This is most definitely the biggest of the blankets (I measured) showing that after a long time of crocheting non-amigurumi things my tension has become much looser! I sent the blanket down to him (with the other brother) and got a very happy phone call off him! He was very pleased with it :D </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6197/6084924177_f65c3573cc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6197/6084924177_f65c3573cc.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><i><u>Crochet WIPs</u></i></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><i><u><br />
</u></i></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The toast scarf that I blogged about in what seems a very long time ago has been making very slow progress as I keep frogging it. But alas I have made all 15 slices with the crusts on, so they only need to be buttered and sewn together.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A very squishy looking loaf!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="text-align: justify;">I should really try and finish it but there are currently other projects which I want to do much more. So sadly my toast scarf will stay in this state for a while longer. Poor poor buttered toast scarf!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6089/6084925271_6291fd915a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6089/6084925271_6291fd915a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">My favourite crochet project at the moment is my 'Lime'shawl which I'm making in a pale silvery blue. I'm making it from Debbie bliss Angel and it is soooo soft and silky. I love it! The pattern is from issue 20 of inside crochet. It's a slow project as its linked crochet which takes me a while to do! Here is my progress so far....</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Only another 31 stars to do and then 27 minor motifs! YIKES</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="text-align: justify;">Its definitely a project that will need to be blocked! Maybe this time next year I will have finished it :S I really like the star motifs though and they will really show they shape when they are blocked!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

I almost forgot (as I haven't touched it in a while) I'm also making a cushion cover using african flower hexagonals!<br />
<br />

<b><i><u>Knitting FO</u></i></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><i><u><br />
</u></i></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I have fallen in love with Tiny Owl Knit designs! I love they fairy tale influence in the designs as she definitely has a great imagination. I started the Beekeepers quilt that I blogged about last but I needed something to store my DPNs in, but don't worry Stephanie had the answer to my problem. Her <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gnome-home-dpn-holder">Gnome homes for DPNs</a>! So I made a gnome home and I LOVE it! Its not quite finished as I need to add elastic to keep the hat on but it works a treat! It was my first time hand felting (so I think I will make another which will hopefully be better) but I am so pleased with how it turned out! So with out further ado may I introduce my Gnome!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;">As a first jumper as a beginner knitter I am so pleased with them and can't wait to finish it. It will be a super snug and warm jumper. Hopefully I will finish it in time for the cold weather :D</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Finally my last WIP is the beekeepers blanket, I have now made 11 in total and I'm half way through my twelfth. I thought they would be really difficult to make and at first I did find it really fiddly and difficult knitting on 3 DPNs but 11 hexipuffs later and its a breeze and I love making them! So he is a load of pictures of them :P</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

Its by <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/people/tinyowlknits">Tiny owl knits</a> and it the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-beekeepers-quilt">Beekeeper's quilt</a>. Its made up of little 'hexypuffs' which are all joined together in a honeycomb pattern. I'm so excited at the prospect of being able to knit a little hexy a day in my spare time or just before bed. I think it will be a great way to wind down from a study packed day (which will be needed if my masters is as stressful as my final year of my Bsc).</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The picture below is from Tiny owl knits finished project linked above. Its so cute and from the <a href="http://vimeo.com/26832987">video </a>she did on it they look so puffy and cuddly! I definitely thought I should share this for those of you who are busy and like the satisfaction of finishing something, as each 'hexypuff' is a mini project in itself. On the tiny owl knit Ravelry group there is a KAL for the quilt and a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/tiny-owl-knits/1765863/1-25">discussion thread</a> where people share their picture charts they have come up with for a 'hexypuff'. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">I'm even more excited now about starting my masters this October!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/tinyowlknits/69831476/DSC_0579_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/tinyowlknits/69831476/DSC_0579_medium2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">On another note I have ordered my yarn for the O w l s jumper I mentioned on a previous blog post and my circular needles came today! I am really excited to start it and can't wait to cast on when the yarn comes next week. I'm making the jumper in Debbie bliss donegal luxury tweed chunky (splashed out a bit!) in a nice teal-ish colour!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I will post some crochet FO's in the next few days :D</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

Its made in Noro silk garden chunky and I held to strands together to give the right gauge. It matches my scarf made in same yarn. I can't wait for winter now, sick of summer so bring on the cold! The yarn is so soft too. I also added a few (four I think) knit rows before the decrease because the last felt too small. So it fit great and I am thrilled with it. Cue pictures...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

I spun the remainder of the roving into a much thinner yarn than my other two attempts and it varies from worsted weight to lace! Oops! I guess spinning evenly is a skill I will gradually learn. I have booked myself on a spinning course in hope that will help :) Well I dyed the yarns and crocheted with it! I dyed the yarns using Dylon handwash and the colours I used where Bahama blue and ocean blue. Sadly these weren't the colours the yarn turned out to be. So I have made a note to self next time not to use dylon for my yarn. SO here are the result!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6130/5990735017_bca8742846.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6130/5990735017_bca8742846.jpg" width="211" /></a></div><br />
And for close ups!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6139/5990736835_7882ea9cbd.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6139/5990736835_7882ea9cbd.jpg" width="211" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">This is the first yarn that I spun and it was dyed in ocean blue but came out as a lilac :( its a nice colour but not what I wanted.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6018/5991292360_bd666bc1b3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6018/5991292360_bd666bc1b3.jpg" width="211" /></a></div><br />
This is the second yarn and I dyed it bahama blue, which I expected to come out as a deep turquoise, but its very pale.<br />
<br />
For my final spun yarn I draped half of it in both dyes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6123/5990737773_0b892f5c09.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6123/5990737773_0b892f5c09.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
And then hand wound it into a ball :D<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6014/5990738823_7a466036e7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6014/5990738823_7a466036e7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I had a lot fun spinning and dying it even if the colour wasn't what I wanted and will definitly do it again. But I couldn't leave the yarn untouched! so I crocheted as much as I could with the small amounts of yarn!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6140/6026381348_cb9897daaf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6140/6026381348_cb9897daaf.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6205/6025825349_5dfde9a364.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6205/6025825349_5dfde9a364.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6208/6026383542_c5f278ba2c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6208/6026383542_c5f278ba2c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I hope this inspires you to give it ago yourself if you haven't already done so! I got a great deal of satisfaction when I was crocheting knowing that I had spun and dyed the yarn that I was using.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div>x<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-85628304005702278602011-07-30T18:59:00.000+01:002011-07-30T18:59:25.066+01:00The Knitting Post<div style="text-align: justify;">OK so I mainly crochet but I learnt to knit first but I haven't done much of it. I saw on Etsy <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/pixiebell">Gnome dome hats</a> and decided I must knit one! So I got some circular needles for the fist time and knit it! This is my first ever hat knitted in the round (and only my 2nd knitted hat ever). I really love it. For the top of the hat I switched to double pointed needles but I didn't have 9mm one so I used 5mm, hence it kinda goes small fast. But I have ordered 9mm DPNs and have more yarn to make a second one, I think I will also try and make one out of the left over Noro silk garden yarn. I'm also quite a tight knitter (my gauge was out) so I will practice knitting looser.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5990739433_1d1511fc89.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5990739433_1d1511fc89.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I've also been really wanting to knit the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/owls-2">OWLs jumper by Kate Davis</a> but I have pretty much no experience doing cable work. So I tested out my skills by making the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/who-ipod-cozy">Who? ipod cosy by Kayleen Grage</a>. I used DK yarn and 3.25 mm DPNs and skipped a couple of things out in the pattern. Using DK yarn means that it fits my nano ipod :) I'm dead chuffed with how it turned out and its given me some confidence to actually undertake doing the jumper!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6006/5991296368_50834a6ecf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6006/5991296368_50834a6ecf.jpg" width="211" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i>With the ipod in it.</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><br />

</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I love the owl design, I think its so cute :D</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I think I will post a blog on my spinning/dyeing and hopefully some crochet FOs in the next few days.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Til then x</div>Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-10801977838548542612011-07-12T23:30:00.000+01:002011-07-12T23:30:20.150+01:00Prototype for woodland themed phone caseI think I have chosen a good design, albeit I need to go and buy some finer fabric (and one which doesn't fray so bad). The side with the button will have a tree on it :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6124/5931317851_8043f80d4f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6124/5931317851_8043f80d4f.jpg" width="211" /></a></div><br />

Sooner or later I guess I will have angora rabbits and maybe a few sheep, that will have to wait until I start earning though! I got a starter spinning kit from <a href="http://handspinner.co.uk/">handspinner.co.uk</a>, It came with an ashford drop spindle, a bag of Merino wool (ready to tease out and spin), the ashford book of hand spinning, and two issues of the mag The wheel. A great starter set in my opinion and it wasn't very expensive either!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6025/5930133959_1f9ed237cb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6025/5930133959_1f9ed237cb.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">So I watched three videos from <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/theartofmegan#p/u/26/-4v4lM0oozc">theartofmegan's channel</a>, the three videos show you how to draft the yarn for spinning, actually spinning the yarn, and finishing and making a skein. Definitely a good watch if you have never spun before!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">So the first bit of yarn I spun came out mega chunky but that's because I used a very thick piece of wool and didn't draft it very much. The turquoise thread in the picture is DK weight and is there to give you a scale.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6024/5930135203_326ea76a89.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6024/5930135203_326ea76a89.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6014/5930692172_178d4812ce.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6014/5930692172_178d4812ce.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The next lot I have spun is using half the thickness of the yarn I used in the first but it is still abit chunky.. maybe more aran weight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5930136753_d6d75bbb8e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5930136753_d6d75bbb8e.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5930693920_6afc7e45f2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5930693920_6afc7e45f2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I still have half the amount of yarn that cam in the kit left and my aim is the spin something more like the DK weight. Then its to dying and I will be dying them using dylon in turquoise and blue colours, which are my favourite colours.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6127/5930695546_000dea01d9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6127/5930695546_000dea01d9.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I'll let you know how I get on! Any tips are welcome please, I want to tune this skill so I can justify getting rabbits and sheep in the future :P</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5928300022_349966ee99.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5928300022_349966ee99.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I think the designs in the book are really cute and it made embroidery actually appeal to me which it has never done before! So this after noon I dug out some scrap fabric (which I bought and used for a moth net) and my mum's embroidery threads. I drew onto the fabric in biro (not a good idea) so when my pen slipped I couldn't correct it so I had to stitch over it. However I think the patterns have come out not so bad!<br />
<br />
Heres what I did this afternoon, I went for an under the sea theme!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6002/5927738449_24890973bb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6002/5927738449_24890973bb.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
And here is each motif one at a time....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5928296500_fcf0640c65.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5928296500_fcf0640c65.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This one is definitely my favourite, the octopus is just so cute :D I like the bubbles too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6145/5928297424_8a2cf00f1e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6145/5928297424_8a2cf00f1e.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I did use two different shades of aqua in this jellyfish but it doesn't show up very well... note to self use more contrasting threads!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6024/5927741233_1d4f37596f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6024/5927741233_1d4f37596f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Finally the star fish!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I really enjoyed doing this today and it was definitely a nice little break from all the crochet I have been doing!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">x </div>Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-52233974950363058262011-07-06T17:41:00.001+01:002011-07-06T18:21:33.751+01:00Past, Present and Future<div style="text-align: justify;">Wow its been quite a week, I got my degree (BSc Zoology (Hons) 2:1, with a 1st for my honours project :D) which I am really pleased with and it means I can do the MSc in Entomology at Imperial come October. Today I got a job interview as well :D really nervous but we will see how everything goes. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">So I haven't posted what I've been doing for a while and that's quite a bit considering I have lots of free time at the moment. So to start with my Mum's finished Star blanket. I LOVE making this blanket, I really really love making this blanket, which I never thought I would say because I didn't think I would like making something as big as a blanket. As I was making it Katie our schnauzer decided to lay on the blanket that I had made for myself so I covered her in the one that I was making and she looked so cute...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6050/5909228428_9424dfcaa6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6050/5909228428_9424dfcaa6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">So after leaving the blanket for about a week to do other things I finally finished and felt very sad because I was enjoying it so much but here it is finished...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5076/5909218070_57ce16076b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5076/5909218070_57ce16076b.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6003/5908661579_3f9b498911.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6003/5908661579_3f9b498911.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">And like I said I REALLY enjoyed making it so I got more yarn for two more blankets hehe :D</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6030/5908659547_98d89dbb5c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6030/5908659547_98d89dbb5c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I love red so I definitely wanted to make a red one</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5314/5908658549_d686f15830.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5314/5908658549_d686f15830.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I chose these colours to look like sea and sand</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I mentioned a few posts ago that I was going to make a scarf using Noro silk garden (chunky). I didn't copy the Rapunzel pattern (from inside crochet magazine) exactly as I only made one strip instead of three as I had used chunky yarn and felt that it was wide enough and tripling it would just be TOO much. I absolutely love the colour and would recommend this yarn (be warned though the thickness of the yarn varies) albeit a bit pricey.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5120/5909219726_3bd9bb15c3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5120/5909219726_3bd9bb15c3.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I decided to teach myself to knit in the round as it was annoying that earlier in the year I had tried and failed. I shall not be beaten! So I tried and succeeded, maybe I failed last time because I had little patience due to exams hurtling towards me at a startling speed. The pattern I used was From the book <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Knit-Purl-Pets-Patterns-Personalities/dp/0715336673">Knit & Purl pets by Claire Garland </a> and it was the bird. I love the patterns in this book so it really pains me to say it but DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! I wonder if the publishers even checked it before they printed as half the bird pattern was repeated on two pages and the rest of the pattern was missing! I was so gutted when I turned the page to continue knitting and realised. I've also heard there are a few other errors in the book. I would say if there is another way to purchase the patterns do so.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Anyway here is the start of the bird anyway. I can't believe I knitted it in the round! :D</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5034/5909222404_6427525885.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5034/5909222404_6427525885.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">So since I appear to be able to successfully knit in the round I have started making a fingerless glove, you can find the pattern <a href="http://scarlettknits.livejournal.com/1315.html#cutid1">HERE</a>. It's a simple glove which is perfect for me as I'm slowly getting used to knitting in the round.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5315/5909224292_481c367f44.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5315/5909224292_481c367f44.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I also thought I would share with you a book I love and definitely think every crocheter should own, <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyond-Square-Crochet-Motifs-Eckman/dp/1603420398">Beyond the square Crochet motifs by Edie Eckman</a>.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5311/5909221502_a72fc17ce6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5311/5909221502_a72fc17ce6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I got it for my 21st off Mum and Dad and its great, I haven't made many from it yet but the motifs are just beautiful!</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Here is one I have made...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5320/5909220654_305c4619c1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5320/5909220654_305c4619c1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I have also made a small flower out of it which is attached to my crochet slippers, which I will blog about on a later date!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Finally I wanted to share I pattern that I like from the lion brand website called <a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/90360AD.html?noImages=&r=1">The tree of life</a>. I think its fantastic and I started to crochet it. Sadly its about to be hibernated as there are other projects that I want to dig in to at the moment like the buttered toast scarf (which is gradually gaining slices of toast). But here is a picture of it so far anyway.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5072/5908669107_d26b0ee77c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5072/5908669107_d26b0ee77c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Anyway that's all for today. Oh and did I mention that I will have been crocheting for a whole year later this month! Time has certainly flown since then, I still feel like it was only yesterday that I first picked up the hook!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I joined a project set up by Kathryn at <a href="http://www.crochetconcupiscence.com/">Crochet Concupiscence</a> called Hookin' Up and its '<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 15px;">designed to allow crochet bloggers to connect with one another, do a little bit of “paying it forward” with crochet reviews and help everyone find more great blogs that talk about crochet'. Yesterday <a href="http://artlikebread.blogspot.com/">Art like bread</a> did a great review of my blog (Thanks :D ) and today it is my turn to review the blog <a href="http://donnasdecembers.blogspot.com/">Donna's Decembers</a> by Liz.</span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 15px;"><br />

<i><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">How and why did you start to crochet?</span></b></i></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></i></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">My grandmother, Donna, taught me to crochet when I was just 7 years old. I was staying at her house a lot in the summer time and always saw her crafting. She would always let me work on projects with her, but knew that if she taught me to crochet, I would probably stay out of her hair ;).</span></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><i><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">What inspired you to start a blog?</span></b></i></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I have always wanted to be the girl that has a cupboard full of notebooks and journals. I have found that it is easier for me to sit down at the computer and record my thoughts or recent events. I love blogging so much! I have met some really incredible people through blogging (via internet and in real life).</span></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><i><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></b></i><br />
<i><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">What gave you the idea to start your etsy shop?</span></b></i></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">During the 2009 winter holiday season, I began crocheting earrings for my friends and family members. I gave every female in my English department a pair of earrings as a token of my appreciation for them. They loved them! A close friend of mine whom owns a handmade shop encouraged me to persue Etsy a little futher. So far, so good!</span></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><i><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></b></i><br />
<i><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Where do you get your inspiration from?</span></b></i></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></i></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">A lot of my inspiration comes from fashion magazines and how people live in various conditions. I look through Vogue each month and imagine the trends and concepts in crochet. Sometimes the ideas work, sometimes they don't! As I travel or go for drives, I think about what accessories would support day-to-day lives in various climates and lifestyles. It's so fun imagining people in your crocheted goods and then actually bringing them to life!</span></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><i><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">What’s your favourite item in your shop and why?</span></b></i></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></i></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I really love the necklaces I offer. They are so delicate and beautiful. It's such a modern twist to vintage crochet. I love it when designers take an old style and give it a new use!</span></div><div style="line-height: 17px; text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

I'll get more tomorrow and start it then but I thought I would share a picture of mum's blanket so far because the colour are lovely and bright :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6AwmH8IPp9K2FqXr2WiVDRU0gFshoNYpK47E5oopX8bUGm6avSU7TjHPnKNFNvYPPYvYOXszIrAX5bztEJ0LthEJJl0QMcSD48yEZPZBvKgc8OmQkyq3cRI6IuHEg9I-AVcXYo1F_kqqh/s1600/DSC_0022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6AwmH8IPp9K2FqXr2WiVDRU0gFshoNYpK47E5oopX8bUGm6avSU7TjHPnKNFNvYPPYvYOXszIrAX5bztEJ0LthEJJl0QMcSD48yEZPZBvKgc8OmQkyq3cRI6IuHEg9I-AVcXYo1F_kqqh/s320/DSC_0022.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Colours are brighter in real life than in the picture, I hope she likes it :)Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-79007098480327052302011-06-21T18:35:00.001+01:002011-06-21T18:57:17.042+01:00Finished Star Blanket<div style="text-align: justify;">As you can see in my last blog post I had started making a star blanket from issue 16 of Inside crochet... well now it's finished YEY! It was really easy to make and relatively quick to make too! It's the first pattern I've made from inside crochet and it has turned out really well. So with out further ado here are some photos.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5069/5857438920_2b95ecc951.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5069/5857438920_2b95ecc951.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I love the star pattern in it .. kind of reminds me of flowers<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5265/5856888505_65c9a7fe59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5265/5856888505_65c9a7fe59.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
And to cuten my blog post here are some dog photos...<br />
This is Holly and she LOVES being wrapped in clothes or blankets so she is very obliging <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2679/5857444904_7701936d2d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2679/5857444904_7701936d2d.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Katie however isn't so obliging but I managed to snap a picture of her wrapped in it :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5189/5857452064_bee10c64b3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5189/5857452064_bee10c64b3.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><br />
Awwh she always looks so serious but shes lovely :D<br />
<br />
And finally here is a couple of pictures of it on the settee <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5271/5857454256_5d51b5db10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5271/5857454256_5d51b5db10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Its the biggest thing I have ever made! and is so different from making Amigurumis<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5317/5857456348_2629400815.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5317/5857456348_2629400815.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">So my Mum loves it and wants me to make one for her, so we went back to the yarn shop and got more yarn in different colours. I should point out that the pattern says you need two 200g balls of each colour but I only used 200g of the blue (sandpiper) colour... so these are the colours Mum chose from the colours available (though there weren't that many as they are so popular that they were selling fast)</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2554/5856914465_4d29e9b737.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2554/5856914465_4d29e9b737.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I also found another yarn shop just down the road from the other yarn and it had Noro silk garden yarn that I wanted so I could make the Rapunzel scarf in the same issue... I love the colours!</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5184/5856916423_62233d1af6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5184/5856916423_62233d1af6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Can't wait to start both projects but I also need to finish the Buttered toast scarf. If only there were more hours in the day!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div>Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-55572280231574524372011-06-17T16:56:00.004+01:002011-06-17T17:23:47.516+01:00Update: crochet madness<div style="text-align: justify;">I'm absolutely loving the summer holiday... can't believe that I won't be back in uni until October and that's only if I choose to do a masters! Anyway I have been crocheting two bigger projects than I usually do. So to start I've started doing Twinkie Chan's Toast scarf. I've done three slices so far and I can't wait until I have finished it (just another 13 slices to go!). I used yarn I got from a yarn shop at home but they didn't have any brands I've heard of. Wish I could find somewhere that sold Lion brand yarn in the UK because I don't fancy ordering it from the USA. Anyway here are some pictures of my finished three slices!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5118/5842211883_d9bbc70559.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5118/5842211883_d9bbc70559.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
mmm plated and ready to serve!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5225/5842760496_840a42f9ff.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5225/5842760496_840a42f9ff.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Ok so my next project which I started yesterday. I had brought along with me issue 16 of inside crochet, it has a lovely blanket in it (star blanket) made in James C. Brett yarn. I figured I would never be able to find this specific yarn but went in search of other bulky yarn. My Dad found a yarn shop in Ruthin and off we went! It was only a small store but it had a nice selection. She told me the bulky yarn was on the bottom three shelves so I bent down and to my disbelief there it was! James C. Brett yarn! However they only had one ball of the aqua yarn. So I chose my own colour combination which has produced an much subtle contrast but I love it! Here are two picture of the first two bands of colour....</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2643/5842209843_f873c0d2b9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2643/5842209843_f873c0d2b9.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>and a slightly closer picture...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5030/5842207445_723fc521e4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" i$="true" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5030/5842207445_723fc521e4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I love the pattern and so far it has been an absolute joy to crochet! I feel like going back to the Ruthin yarn shop and buying a different combination of colours and crocheting another straight after! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Another project I'm intermittently doing is the scandinavian throw, which I have now finished all 15 small blocks and am half way through making the first of the four big blocks :D</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Anyway I'm off to crochet some more but will keep you updated!</div>Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825824132457948916.post-7400430273928653882011-06-13T14:29:00.000+01:002011-06-13T14:29:46.157+01:00Crochet hook case :D<div style="text-align: justify;">I ordered a set of 12 crochet hooks as my set is rather random and incomplete. So with my 12 new hooks on the way (2mm- 8mm) I decided to make a crochet hook case. I found <a href="http://todaywemade.co.uk/2008/02/crochet-hook-roll-tutorial/">THIS</a> great tutorial by Joanne for the perfect crochet hook case and I am thrilled with the results! I used fabric from what remained of my mums stash (from the days when she did quilting) to save money. I also made a few adjustments to the pattern: </div><br />
<ol><li>Made it 3 inches longer to make it large enough for all 12 hooks </li>
<li>Decreased the size of the inside pocket so it was an inch shorter (accidental)</li>
<li>Added a little bar to hook on my stitch markers</li>
<li>Made the top flap an inch bigger (to compensate for accident)</li>
<li>Used wadding instead of interfacing (because I had no interfacing)</li>
</ol><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">The instructions were really easy to follow and the case has a nice finish. I can't believe that after rolling out of bed past 11 that I managed to finish it by 5.30 when the last time I sewed I was about 13. My mum was a great help she guided me through the first half making sure I was doing it correct and then I felt confident enough to finish it when she went away.<br />
<br />
Here is a picture of my current case and hooks and as you can see I have a random assortment of hooks. I got the case free with a magazine (can't remember which magazine though). It has no room in it for my new hooks.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">I am dead chuffed with it and definitely recommend using this tutorial/pattern if you choose to make one!</div><br />
Hope you like it x<br />

I've never seen this shop in the northwest, but I saw it in London and Portsmouth. I think the creatures on them are really cute. So I decided to make one of them myself. I went for the pink one to start with. As you can see on the book....</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2057/5801486061_7717e74b4d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2057/5801486061_7717e74b4d.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
And the magnets....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5024/5801484057_fdd9969e57.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5024/5801484057_fdd9969e57.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">I'm still learning the ropes, in terms of when creating my own shapes, knowing when to increase and decrease (bar doing a sphere which I've made enough to know how to do it). But practice makes perfect so here is may attempt at the head... </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2708/5802035436_fc580f7b06.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2708/5802035436_fc580f7b06.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The head is quite small, which is how I wanted it but maybe the features could have be smaller. I added a flower to the head like in the magnet picture. I'm really pleased with it and it makes a good paper weight. I did write down the pattern for it but I think I might make tweeks before I ever post it. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2032/5802038758_6019fc25a1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2032/5802038758_6019fc25a1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

The other day I saw a geisha doll and decided to crochet one myself. Here is a picture of it...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2704/5792872067_1419db1bb1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2704/5792872067_1419db1bb1.jpg" width="211" /></a></div><br />
and a picture of the back which has a flower on it...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5268/5792871061_a7517ba884.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5268/5792871061_a7517ba884.jpg" width="211" /></a></div><br />
So here is the pattern, I would love it if you would like to make one and give me feedback on what you think of the pattern, and if it has any hiccups.<br />

Considering that I had to catch the train here I couldn't bring much crochet with me (mind you I haven't had much time to crochet). However I brought some yarn with me to make some coasters in the evening before bed. I found a lovely <a href="http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Crochet/Projects/HomeDec/SB149-005+Coasters.htm">pattern</a> on <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/">Ravelry</a>, which is simple and quick (you may have noticed that I don't like big projects). Here are some pictures below:</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I definitely prefer making Amigurumi but this has been great to do whilst on holiday </div>Saskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14403503712347789417noreply@blogger.com0
